Travis Fitzgerald is a Portland-based artist, trained as a painter, whose practice has expanded to include sculpture, fabric-based work, and collage. Originally from New Jersey, Fitzgerald received his BA from Wesleyan University in Connecticut in 2009. Upon moving to Portland, he became a member of the Appendix Collective and a co-curator and director of the Appendix spaces: Appendix Project Space, Little Field, and Hay Batch! Performance Space.

Fitzgerald’s work examines the honesty of presentation and how one’s self-conception reveals and hides without conscious knowledge. Drawing from the tension between the gaudy and the tasteful, Fitzgerald creates pieces that search for an environment of their own, presenting themselves as best as they can.
